working with fabric

i recently spent an inspiring weekend back at haystack, this time in the fiber studio with textile artist susie brandt and a wonderful group of classmates. i hadn’t sewn in about three years, and had never considered myself particularly handy with a sewing machine, but susie taught us about the craftsmanship of risk, a phrase that has stuck with me this month. i sewed a small quilt using the improvisational piecing method she taught us, using a bunch of fabric from here and there, including some of my own designs and some of the kids’ favorite old clothes – and i had SO MUCH FUN. i predict more sewing in my future.
